Namah Shivaya is a five-lettered Mantra (Na Ma Shi Va Ya) meaning Prostrations to Lord Shiva. This is a very powerful Mantra which when chanted by the devotee bestows the highest bliss of excellence. Lord Shiva is Jagat Pati-Lord of the Universe and Jagat Guru-world’s teacher who is a storehouse of knowledge and who is known by various names - Mahadeo, Shankara, Shambhu, Sadashiva, Rudra, Maheshwara, Nilakantha, Trilochana, Tryambaka, Sulapani, Parama Shiva, Digambara, Dakshinamurti, etc.

By worshipping Lord Shiva, we cultivate the qualities of infinite consciousness, detachment and freedom from bondage. Shiva is also the Lord of Samkalpa, the strength of willpower to define and obtain our goals. He is the destroyer of evil and ambassador of transformation in this ocean of existence. Every moment of time has a beginning, an existence and a transformation into something else.

We realize that celebrated Supreme Being Parusha and meditate upon that great God Mahadeva, May that Rudra impel us to do so.

I bow down to the three-eyed Lord Shiva, who is full of seet fragrance an swho nourishes all human beings. May He free me from the bondage of life and death and grant me immortality.

BHAAL CHANDRAMAA SOHAT NEEKE KAANAN KUNDAL NAAG PHANEE KE
Praise to the Lord of the Mountain, who is kind and compassionate to the poor, who always protects his children. Upon whose forehead the moon is shining elegantly and whose ears are decorated with rings of cobra snakes.

ANG GAUR SIRA GANG SAHAAYE MUND MAAL TAN CHAAR LAGAAYE
VASTRA KHAAL BAAGHAM BARA SOHE CHHAVI KO DEKH NAAG MUNI MOHE
His body is white and upon his head, the Ganga river is flowing. He wears a garland of skulls and covers his body with ashes. He wears a tiger skin garment and his countenance appears facinating as an ascetic.

MAINAA MAATU KE HVAI DULAARI BAAM ANGA SOHAT CHHAVI NYAAREE
KAR ME TRISHUL SOHAT CHHAVI BHARI KARAT SADA SHATRUNA KSHAI KAREE
To the mother maina bird, he is a beloved daughter. His left side shines with a female countenance. In his hand the tiger skin clad One holds a trident, always ready to destroy all that is enemical.

NANDEE GANESH SOHAI TAHAN KAISE SAAGAR MADHYA KAMAL HAI JAISE
KARTIK SHYAAM AUR GANARAWOO YAA CHHAVI KO KAHI JAATA NA KAAWOO
Nandi and Ganesh are always there with you, just like the lotus is in the midst of the water. Kartik and the dark one and others of the multitude of divine beings will not be able to see this countenance manifested in another form or any other place.

Whenever the Gods shout for victory, Oh Lord, you prevent all pain. And when the Asura Taraka caused that great disturbance, all the Gods united in worship to you.

KIYAA TAPAHIN BHAAGEE RATHA BHAAREE; POORAYE PRATIGYAA TAASU PAAYEE
You saved everyone by the grace of your absorption, O Purari, what a great spiritual discipline Bhagiratha performed to complete his promise.

DAANEE MAHAAN TUM SAM KOU NAHEE SEVAK ASTUTI KARAT SAADA HEE
VEA NAAM MAHIMAA TAVA GAAYEE AKATHA ANAADI BHEDA NAHIN PAAYEE
There is no other comparable to your generous nature and your devotees always sing your praises. The Vedas sing the greatness of your name.

PRAGATE UDADHI MAN THANA ME JWAALA JARE SURASUR BHAYEE BIHAALA
KEENHA DAYAA TAAN KAREE SHAAYEE; NEEL KANTH TAB NAAM KAHAAYEE
Your light manifested in the churning of the ocean, removing the fear of the Gods and Asuras. With compassion you offered your assistance and became the Blue-necked One after drinking the poison.

POOJAN RAMACHANDRA JAB KEENHAA JEET KEE LANKAA VIBHISHAN DEENHAA
SAHAS KAMAL SE POOJAT DHAAREE KEENHA PARREKSHAA TABAHIN PURAAREE
When Ramachandra performed worship, you gave him Vibhisana to defeat Lanka. You performed the test by holding a thousand lotuses.

EK KAMAL PRABHU RAAKHYAO GOHEE KAMAL NAYAN POORAN CHAHAN SOYEE
KATHIN BHAKTI DEKHI PRABHU SHANKARA BHAYE PRASANA DIYE ICCHITA VAR
O Lord, who place that one lotus for the lotus-eyed One to do the desired Puja. O Lord Shankara, seeing His devotion, you gave him the desired boon.

Victory, victory, victory to the Infinite who is indestructible, give your blessings to your creations. Every day my evil mind is troubled, I continue in confusion and ignorance and consciousness does not come to me.

LAI TRISHUL SHATRUN KO MAARO SANKAT SE MOHI AANI UBAARO
O Lord I seek your help and Divine blessings at this very moment, save and protect me. Destroy my enemies with your Trishul and release me from evil thoughts.

MAATAA PITA BRAATAA SAB KOYEE SANKAT MEI POOCHAT NAHEEN KOYEE
SWAMI EK HAI AAS TUMHAAREE AAI HARAHUN AB SANKAT BHAAREE
Mother, father, brothers or any others can relieve me of my sufferings, I depend only on You. Eliminate the cause of my torture and bless me with your compassion.

DHAN NIRDHAN KO DETA SADAHIN JO KOYEE JAANCHAA SO PHAL PAAHEE
ASTUTI KEHI VIDHI KARAHU TUMAHAAREE SHAMBHU NAATH AB CHOOK HAMAAREE
You bless the downtrodden with prosperity and grant wisdom to the ignorant. O Lord, due to my limited knowledge, I omitted to worship thee, please forgive me and shower your grace upon me.

SHANKARA HO SANKAT KE NAASHAN MANGAL KAARAN VIGHNA VINAASHAN
YOGEE YAEE MUNEE DHYAAN LAGAAWAI NARAD SHARAD SHEESH NAVAAVAI
Bhagwan Shankar you are the destroyer of all miseries. You remove the all obstacles and grant Your devotees eternal bliss. The Saints and Sages meditate on you, Thy most beautiful form. Even celestial being like Narad and Sharad bow in reverence to You.

NAMO NAMO JAI NAMO SHIVAYE SURA BRAHMAADIK PAAR NA PAAYE
I bow again and again to Lord Shiva, even Brahma cannot cannot discover the end to your infinity.

JO YAHA PAATH KARE MAN LAAYEE TAAPAR HOTA HAI SHAMBHU SAHEEYEE
RINIYAA JO KOYEE HO ADHIKHAAREE PAATH KARE SO PAWAN HAREE
Whoever shall recite this song with You in mind, Shambhu, the giver of bliss, will always be protected.

PUTRA HEEN KAR ICCHAA KOYEE NISHCHAI SIVA PRASAD THEI HOYEE
PANDIT TRAYODASHi KO LAAVAI DHYAAN POORVAK HOMA KARAAVAI
Devotees who chant these verses with intense love become prosperous by the grace of Lord Shiva. Even the childless wishing to have children will have their desires fulfilled after partaking in Lord Shiva’s Prasad with faith and devotion.

DHOOP DEEPA NAI VEDYA CHARDHAVAI SHANKARA SANMUKH PAATH SUNAVAI
Those who fast and pray to Lord Shiva on the 13th day of the dark and bright fortnight will always be healthy and prosperous. Whosoever offers incense and prashad to lord Lord Shiva will enjoy material happiness and spiritual bliss.
