HUMANITARIAN SERVICES

We make a living by what we get,
but we make a life
by what we give.

One of the basic tenets of Hinduism is to help those in need. The key purpose for this article is to raise awareness of the need for all of us to help and support the less fortunate.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all members of the global community especially those who are poor, suffering or are otherwise disadvantaged. We must invest in today’s children--the leaders of tomorrow, through knowledge, education and guidance for them, their parents and their communities. We must respond to all people in need regardless of their race, religion or social position.

Our most precious, yet vulnerable, resource is the children. What these children become, and the society they create, depends on what children learn in the present. We know that children flourish when nurtured in a peaceful, loving and caring environment. They learn from caring and loving parents and communities, who teach them positive values. Thus we strive to provide the conditions, training and resources needed to help children grow mentally, physically and spiritually in those values that assure a fruitful and joyful life.

Education

An important part of our mission is to invest in today’s children. We currently, have a program that provides school supplies for several charitable organizations and school districts in Guyana and Jamaica. By involving ourselves in this project, we guarantee that the children from many poor families have the necessary tools for learning. There are many villages and remote areas in Guyana where children do not go to school because their parents cannot afford the basic materials for learning such as pens, pencils, exercise books and so on.

Every year, in cooperation with the Prema Satsangh Mandir of Jamaica, a summer camp as well as a cultural and religious workshop is scheduled for the children of Kingston, Jamaica. In conclusion of this program, an evening of Bhajans and cultural activities is held to help raise funds for this organization.

We also procure and deliver computer equipment and software for educational purposes to developing countries. In October 2005, several computers were sent to the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technologies (IAST) at the University of Guyana. We have been working with Dr Suresh Narine, Director of IAST to ensure that the students at the Institute are able to complete their training with practical knowledge and experience, enabling them to enter the workforce and meet the demand of a growing field of new technologies and at the same time, contributing to the building of a better Guyana.

Medical

Basic medical supplies that we take for granted, such as antibiotics, bandages and simple procedures are considered luxuries by many living in difficult circumstances. Bhuvaneshwar Mandir addresses these needs through a variety of means including procuring and delivering medical supplies to clinics and medical programs to communities in need. And raising funds to build a medical clinic at the Bharat Sevasharam Sangha in Cove and John, East Coast Demerara, Guyana, which provides medical care for the poor.

Emergency Relief

Prakashji and the devotees of Bhuvaneshwar Mandir have managed emergency relief for the Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Rita and flooding in Guyana, often in close cooperation with Government agencies and various non-profit organizations.

Coincident with the Asian Tsunami, Guyana experienced severe flooding throughout the East Coast, West Coast and part of East Bank Demerara. The Bhuvaneshwar team immediately responded by sending food, water, clothing, tents, medical supplies and other household items to help with the relief effort for the flood victims. Several containers and barrels of supplies were shipped to Guyana within weeks of this natural disaster. The floodwaters destroyed several homes, farms and livestock, resulting in loss of income, and housing for countless families.

We encourage you to browse this website for opportunities to help build happier, better lives for the needy and give hope to the downtrodden both at home and abroad. Also, the success of our cultural and religious organizations requires our individual initiative and effort. We are assured that those who help will reap peace, prosperity and happiness wherever they have sown goodness.

Prakashji volunteers his time for numerous fund raising activities for various charitable and non-profit organizations, throughout the United States of America, Canada, Guyana, England and the Caribbean Islands. In spite of a very busy schedule, he is always willing to serve humanity.

If you would like to participate in any of our programs or require additional details, please call 718-843-0542 or email: guruji@bhuvaneshwarmandir.com

Prakashji would like to call on all to continue to help whenever and wherever possible.

The Salvation Of The Dawn

Look to this day for it is life, the very life of life, and in its brief course lays all the verities and realities of your existence.

The bliss of growth, the glory of action, the splendor of beauty; for yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision; but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore----to THIS day. Sanskrit quote.
