The Mora Point Health Centre, Mahaicony River has been renamed after
the late Shri Prakash Gossai.
This was formally announced yesterday by Minister in the Ministry of
Health Dr. Bheri Ramsaran yesterday, when the centre was
re-commissioned. The ceremony was held under the theme: “Changing
the landscape of Guyana’s health sector,” the Government Information
Agency (GINA) said in a statement.
While delivering the feature address, Ramsaran is quoted as saying
that the centre is evidence of how Guyana’s landscape would be
changing rapidly for the better. “This centre will be adding to the
many health, diagnostic centres and hospitals throughout the
administrative regions especially in remote areas,” he said. After
inspecting the facility, the minister said he was satisfied with the
progress made to refurbish the centre.

The health centre is benefitting thousands of Mahaicony residents
and was made a reality by voluntary services and dedication shown by
Minister Ramsaran and the Mahaicony Cultural and Humanitarian
Associa-tion Incorporated, located in New York. Among the services
being offered are dentistry and optometry.
Minister Ramsaran, according to GINA, added that Government is
hoping to add a maternity ward to the health centre, which would
facilitate safe motherhood to residents of Mora Point.
Head of the Mahaicony Cultural and Humanitarian Association
Incorporated, Vijai Kublall said that although it was a constraint
to build the centre, “It certainly paid off today by providing
better health care to residents residing in Mahaicony.” He also
lauded residents for their voluntary contribution.
The Shri Prakash Gossai Health Centre is one of the many gestures of
the Mahaicony Cultural and Humanitarian Association Incorporated,
which is aiming to have the facility provide services to residents
as any other established hospital, GINA said. |
